The accelerating integration of artificial intelligence and digital technologies into supply chain operations presents a generational opportunity to transform how North American industries anticipate disruption, allocate resources, and compete globally. This talk describes the semiconductor supply chain and examines how AI-driven tools — from predictive analytics and demand forecasting to autonomous logistics and digital twins — are reshaping the architecture of supply networks across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Drawing on recent advances in machine learning, optimization, and real-time data systems, we explore how digitalization can address longstanding vulnerabilities exposed by geopolitical shifts, pandemic-era shocks, and climate-related disruptions. Rather than treating resilience and efficiency as competing priorities, we argue that intelligently designed digital infrastructure enables both — creating supply chains that are simultaneously more adaptive, more sustainable, and more competitive.
The talk also considers the strategic and policy dimensions of this transformation: what investments, governance frameworks, and cross-border collaborations are needed to ensure that the benefits of AI-enabled supply chains are broadly shared and that critical dependencies are reduced. Particular attention is given to the role of nearshoring and regional integration as catalysts for deploying these technologies at scale across North America.
We conclude with a forward-looking agenda for researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers, identifying priority areas where evidence-based action can accelerate the transition to digitally resilient, strategically sovereign supply chains fit for the challenges ahead.
